The first image of Ben Affleck as Batman has hit the web and he looks the absolute business, like a proper bruiser. The outfit is of course textured (aren't all the hi def Hollywood heroes now days) but going by the arms it looks less like 'armor' and more like a superhero suit which suits (I thank you) this Bat fan down to the ground although it still pales in comparison to the costume worn in the excellent 'Batman:dead End' fan flick which still looks amazing black trunks and all.
The Batmobile looks pretty cool too and going by the length of the vehicle as seen in the first teaser and with what looks like a tire mid way up in the new image could we be getting a boss 6 wheeler? Fingers crossed. (although the more I look at it maybe not)
As with when Affleck was announced as the new Dark Knight this single black and white image has had the interweb's fanboy elite going into melt down and what a miserable lot they are. Seriously check the comments under this image on any site and try not to get bogged down in the quagmire your average Hollywood superhero fan likes to call home. These high horse riding fanboys aim to never be pleased and Zach Snyder's superhero flicks show this better than most. With Watchmen he made an almost frame by frame adaptation of the comic book series and was instantly lambasted for it but if he'd messed with it in any really significant way he would have been equally criticized but more telling was the fan reaction to Man of Steel.
Joyless fans get the hero they deserve and never the one they want and jeez Louise do they not want Ben Affleck but the fact of the matter is as long as they look the part (or in Michel Keaton's case not) any half decent actor can play Batman. Even gorgeous George Clooney who most point the finger at as being the worst was only bad because the movie he was in was bad given better material to work with and a better director I'd put good money on him being remembered as one of the best (imagine Seth Geko in a cowl, solid gold baby.)
Love him or loath him Affleck looks the part and I'm looking forward to hopefully seeing him play a more comic book style adventurer, not a camp Adam West but dear gods not another Dark Knight Rises reality monger.
Recent reports regarding the new Fantastic Four movie have had it's writer Simon Kinberg describe it's tone as 'much more realistic, grounded, science rather than science fiction' how depressing that one of the all time King Kirby creations is being beaten with the reality stick, instead of cosmic hi-jinks set in other dimensions populated by silver surfers and world devourers we'll have the reality of a man burning to death, another crushed under the weight of his own skin as it turns to stone while his friend disintegrates into a human puddle crying as he watches the woman he loves slowly fade away to nothing. If there is one thing super heroes should never be boys and girls it's realistic.
We’re approaching it in a much more realistic, grounded, science rather than science-fiction way.
