Is Dredd the best big screen comic strip adaptation...

Saw Dredd this morning and loved it, without doubt (for me at least) one of the best comic book adaptation ever with an excellent cast doing justice (i thank you) to each of their characters. With a fifth of the budget ($45,000,000 according to IMDB)of the Avengers ($220,000,000) Dark Knight Rises ($250,000,000) and the disappointing Amazing Spider-Man ($230,000,000) the makers got the story spot on, nice and simple no epic 'saving the city' grandstanding which has been the schtick for the higher profile Marvel/DC efforts as Dredd says at the end it was 'just a drug bust'. My only complaint is that I'd prefer to have seen it in 2D and a little 'Verhoeven' style social commentary/humor would have been a nice touch but that could have led to unfair RoboCop comparisons when it could be argued Robo is just a rip off of or at least heavily influenced by the long running 2000ad strip.
With the reviews it's receiving along with a healthy box office a sequel should be on the cards with surly a more fitting budget and from what other people have been saying the preferred choice for villain would be Judge Death but personally I'd like to see Dredd go up against the Angel Gang (the one thing the Stallone dud unknowingly got right) keeping the story line in the 'a day in the life' mold (if it turns into a trilogy then have the 3rd be the Dredd saves the world super natural Dark Judge extravaganza ideally based on the 'Necropolis' story line). This flick proves that with the right people in charge less is defiantly more a rule that should become law for all future comic book movies.

BEHIND the SCENES of DREDD.....

Here's a dirt short behind the scenes featurette for DREDD......can-you-DIG IT!

New (ish) poster for DREDD.....

Here's the latest poster for the new Judge Dredd flick and as nice as it looks I'm not sure why it has him standing on a rooftop Batman style or to be more precise Daredevil style...
It just seems lazy to go with what is essentially a 'superhero' pose why not turn to 2000ad for some inspiration......
I still have this issue framed and hanging on my wall, not the most dramatic but pure zarjaz none the less.

DREDD Full TRAILER.....

Die Hard + The Raid x Judge Dredd = can you DIG IT!

This looks very promising the makers seem like they've used their relatively small budget ($45,000,000 according to IMDB) to best effect by making a basic but solid action flick which is exactly what a Judge Dredd movie should be. Fingers crossed the movie lives up to the trailer.

Trailer for 'JUDGE MINTY' the Judge Dredd fan movie...

Here's the trailer for the 'fan made' Dredd movie 'JUDGE MINTY' and don't it look a peach the trailer alone is a million times better than the Stallone effort. I've been following its progress since I heard about it a year ago and it looks like a very exciting project. You can keep up to date with its production over on the directors blog.

This is a collage I made of Judge Dredd's six (?) shooter...

Olivia Thirlby as Judge Anderson

Here's the first image of Judge Anderson from the new Judge Dredd flick and a couple more featuring some random Judges (Judge Lex doesn't ring any bells from the comic strips) and another of Dredd himself that will apear in the next issue of Empire Magazine. The good news with these pic the helmets don't look as cumbersome and I like the look of the Judges armour being all chewed up, can-you-DIG-IT!
Here's an article.

My Judge Dredd Homage

Keeping up the 2000 ad theme, here's an illustration I did of Mega City's number 1 law enforcer.

My 'Mean' Angel Homage.

Here's my own homage to 2000 ad's Mean 'Mean Machine' Angel. I know his 'robotic' eye is on the wrong side but.....so whit.

The one thing the new Dredd movie should steal from the old one.

Here is a new image of Karl Urban As Judge Dredd and don't it look sweet. Still very excited about this flick despite some mixed feelings over certain uniform and prop designs (the style of his Law Giver and Law Master, the cumbersome looking helmet). As a side note if I could include one thing from the Stallone effort it would be Mean 'Mean Machine' Angel (Played by Christopher Adamson) which couldn't have been any more on the money.

Judge Dredd's new movie Lawgiver.

Here is a close up of Judge Dredd's Lawgiver as it'll be in the new flick. Not to wild on how they look (or the Lawmaster for that matter) but I'm still 100% looking forward to this. The helmets look more than spot on though.

Also have a look at the trailer for the pretty amazing looking fan flick "Judge Minty" and click here to check out their blog site for filming details.
