THE LONE RANGER RIDES AGAIN!

It has been confirmed that there will be a new LONE RANGER flick starring Johnny Depp as...Tonto.
Here's one for all you trivia fans out there, the original radio plays the Lone Ranger (who's real identity except his surname REID was never used until the 1980's film Legend of the Lone Ranger gave him the name John Reid) appeared in had a spin off which depicted the son of his nephew Dan, BRITT REID fighting crime as as the masked avenger THE GREEN HORNET.

What's next for the BATMAN movies.

Christian Bale has said that DARK KNIGHT RISES will probably be his last Bat-flick and in my opinion that's not a bad thing. I've loved BEGINS and DARK KNIGHT and can't see RISES disappointing so it's best he ends on a high but what next for the caped crusader? Well, you can bet your old lady and the hat she's wearing that the money men at WARNER Bros know there's still boat loads of cold hard cash to be made so either a further sequel or as with Spider-man a complete reboot is defiantly on the cards. As much as I'm not a fan of them I think a reboot is the best way to go with BATMAN and if this is the case I'd love to see them take there ques from the daddy of all Fan flicks BATMAN: DEAD END (with out doubt the best Bat-suit ever put on screen) and make a big screen adaptation of the Alan Moore written KILLING JOKE or Grant Morrison's Arkham Asylum. It's a good bet this won't happen so you may say I'm just a dreamer but...I'm not the only one.

Here's the Bale interview. and for those who haven't seen it here's DEAD END enjoy.

BEING HUMAN American remake......?

When it comes to Sci-Fi and fantasy TV shows America always held the advantage over British efforts because they could afford the budgets to fully realize them but every now and then Britain (particularly between the 1960's & 70's) would produce shows which where superior in ideas and imagination to their more flashy American cousins. A recent example of this is BBC3's BEING HUMAN, the story of a Vampire, a Werewolf and a Ghost who all share a flat on a normal street in a normal town and how they deal with their individual 'situations' while trying to lead normal lives. It's a simple premise which works because it's well written and well acted so doesn't have to rely on special FX to drive the stories as that is left to who the characters are and NOT what they are (this also means that when used the FX are far more effective). So when I found out it was to be shown in America on SyFy channel I was pleased to see another distinctly British show, just like Dr. Who being sold to a bigger audience, that was until I saw the trailer only to see that what will be shown is an American remake. This is very disappointing especially as the American version, by the looks of the trailer seems to be nothing more than another formulaic schedule filler in the same vain as shows like The Vampire Diaries and Supernatural. Here's the trailer for the remake (which amusingly anounces it's self as an 'original' program) and a trailer for the original series which I've just discovered was being shown on BBC America, so the choice is yours, I know which one I'll be watching.

Iggy Pop- Night clubbing.

I'm guessing this is not the official video but how perfect is it for this song, dig it.

ARCHIE GOODWIN...LEGEND

Here's an interview with legendary comic writer and editor Archie Goodwin, generally considered the ''Nicest guy in comics'' Goodwin not only has one of the most impressive and respected bodies of work but is cited by many including current DC co-publisher and superstar artist Jim Lee as giving them there big breaks into the comics business. He is also credited by Richard Starkings (Elephantmen) as being instrumental in getting the DRAGON'S CLAWS book off the ground at Marvel UK in the 1980's, one of my all time favorite titles (even though it only ran for 10 issues I highly recommend it). Goodwin passed away in 1998 and his absence in the world of comics is great and telling.

First Images of the new JUDGE DREDD movie.

At this very moment Mrs. Leftbridge (3 times winner of the Scheme Comix GO-GO dancer and White Russian mixer of the year award) is trying her best to settle me down in the only way she knows how and what gentle reader has caused me to turn in to a man-sized version of a juiced up Justin Bieber fan take a look at the first pic of Karl Urban as, JUDGE DREDD......CAN-YOU-DIG-IT!!!!!
My first thoughts are that even though the helmet looks a little cumbersome this single image already pisses all over Stallone. They have obviously based his armour on how it was drawn in the very early days and even though I mentioned his helmet it still looks great. Hope that's not his Law Giver though but right now nothing is going to ruin my Dredd Buzz.

The Warriors Way............YEEE HAWWW!

Now,  I'm going to contradict myself slightly here but c'est la vie. As a premise The Warriors Way is nothing new, shamed assassin turns protector and his former bosses come looking for revenge also the imagery is no doubt a deliberate homage to it's many predecessors, Lone Wolf and Cub, Fung Fu (and the promo vid to the Death in Vagas track 'Scorpio Rising' is definitely represented) to name a few. BUT, if it lives up to the trailer I can see nothing but a solid ear to ear smiler of an action flick coming over the horizon, just think BABY CART on the RIVER STYX crossed with HIGH PLAINS DRIFTER.

Full Green Lantern Trailer

I have to say, I still don't dig it.

A Guy Called Gerald - Voodoo Ray

THE MARTIANS HAVE LANDED

It's the end of the world as we know it and Hollywood is getting ready to hit out with a double-wamy of Alien invasion flicks so which ones will have our chests bursting with excitement and which will have us running for the hills (I thank you). The first to land (and it has to be said my least favorite) is SKYLINE which is already taking a bit of a critical battering and going purely by the trailer alone it just looks awful. The next one will be Battle: Los Angeles which, again going purely by the trailer looks far more interesting, but wait gentle readers there is another. One of my favorite movies over the last few years was District 9 a picture that showed if nothing else how to use a relatively small FX budget to it's full potential in driving the story rather than distracting from it and it would seem that the makers of MONSTERS are following District 9's guidelines. Once again going only by the trailer this is the one I'm waiting for. Check out the trailers and let me know what you think.

As a side note with these and the prospect of a Cloverfeild sequel and another Americanized Godzilla remake on the horizon could these Sci-Fi flicks be Hollywoods way of filling it's quota of patriotic, backslapping as it shows America going, against all odds against politically neutral enemies (or ecological natural disasters as seen in 2012, Day After Tommorow, ect..) while ignoring and distracting from real world conflicts? just a thought kids.

Science Fiction...I can't think of any form of literature which is more concerned with real issues...."

Who put the 'THE' in Wolverine?

Hot to trot Director of the moment Darren Aronofsky has revealed the title of his forth coming Wolverine sequel (drum roll) and the title is...............'THE WOLVERINE'........parp!
My question now is this, why the 'THE'? Isn't Wolverine just his his code name, he's not 'A' Wolverine you wouldn't read GI JOE comics and think ''Oh I love THE Snake Eyes'' unlike Batman who's title is a mantel and is given to him because he dresses as a Bat. But I suspect it's got a lot to do with the Bat movies going for and achieving critical gravitas with THE DARK KNIGHT. I abandoned Wolverine long ago, for me once Chris Claremont stopped writing X-MEN and Logan became the focal point of Marvel the character slowly deflated like a forgotten party balloon and as much as I got a kick out of the first two X-flicks the thrill has definitely gone.
And while I'm at it Requiem for a Dream is a terrible film it's like Trainspotting being directed by Calvin Klien.

ORIGINAL STAR WARS NOVEL PROLOGUE (1977)

This is the original prologue from the 1977 novelization of STAR WARS which Lucas claims is from the ''First Saga, Journal of the Whills'' (which I doubt was ever as planed out as he has often claimed). In my opinion this page and a half lays out a clear and simple plot that completely removes the necessity of the dire prequels. If only I had gotten hold of this before Phantom Menace came out I could have saved spending my time and money helping Lucas ruin my childhood. On the up side though, dig that cover art work, pure class.

GREEN LANTERN FOOTAGE.

A while back I made some sarcastic predictions of what I thought we could expect to see in the forth coming Green Lantern flick, well some footage has been released described as a 'trailer for a trailer' and even though it's less than a minute long some of my predictions seem to be near enough on the money, in particular his 'isn't it cool reaction' to his powers and his meeting with Kilowog.

Have a look at my blog and then watch the footage and let me know if my beaming smugness is justified.

WHAT DO YOU WANT FROM MARVEL & DC?

Here's a question for my 4 dedicated followers out there,WHAT KIND OF COMICS DO YOU WANT FROM MARVEL & DC. A simple enough question you may think but a more puzzling one is why Marvel & DC are not asking it? Boring predictable stories with tired old characters continually re-booted, re-done and re-vamped. Worse however is the blatant lack of imagination demonstrated by the big two in recent years. Exhibit A; Marvel killed off Steve Rodgers the original Captain America and replaced him with his long thought dead former side-kick over at DC they killed off Bruce Wayne the original Batman and replaced him with his former side-kick while bringing back an other long thought dead former side-kick as a villain. Exhibit B; DC run the Blackest Night story line in it's Green Lantern books which saw dead heroes rise from the grave over in Marvel they run the Necrosha story line in it's X-Men books which saw dead heroes rise from the grave (and if that's not bad enough they are also running a story line at the moment Chaos War which has dead former X-Men rising from the grave! how original). these are only two examples but there are many, many more and still sales continue to plummet and so again gentle reader I ask WHAT DO YOU WANT FROM MARVEL & DC? If your a regular comic reader I'd love to hear what you think, are you happy with multiple Batman and Avenger titles and spin offs do you look forward to trying to wade through the convoluted gloop of X-Men and Spider-man continuity or do you yearn for another attempt by DC at making Superman dark and edgy, let me know.

Stan Lee interviews Will Eisner, can you DIG IT!

It's probably safe to say that most people only know Will Eisner as the creator of The SPIRIT and even then most will only know of The SPIRIT because of the disappointing Frank Miller directed movie adaptation but no matter how little you know of him it should always be remembered that without Eisner and the people he inspired Pop Culture would be left sadly lacking. Enjoy and check out his official web site here.

TOXIC AVENGER REMAKE....NNNOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooo..........

If proof was needed that Hollywood has run out of ideas there comes the news that director Steve Pink is set to remake Troma Films 1984 super hero spoof, THE TOXIC AVENGER. Why? Like most Troma flicks it was a fun, B-movie-esque, gross out where the main selling point was the films title and accompanying poster but was only ever really worth one watch. Then after the TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES hit pay dirt it was made kiddie friendly and turned into a cartoon and toy line as a poor rival to the heroes in a half shell then, unnoticed rightly sunk with out trace. So again I ask WHY a remake, well here's my cynical theory, it's got a similar story to Spiderman which is currently being remade so there's plenty of room for knowing gags (probably about bodily fluids and a tag line that reads WITH GREAT POWER COMES GREAT 'IRRESPONSIBILITY') and it's got the word AVENGER in it so there's a couple of coat tails for it to ride around on. Go back and read my COMING SOON post for how I think this project got green lit.

Here's the article from deadline.com.

Veruca Salt - Seether

AUNT MAY and UNCLE BEN CASTED......oh no.

It appears that the new Spidey re-boot has cast Peter Parker's guardians with Martin Sheen and Sally Feild being the lucky duo. I have to say that as time goes on my enthusiasm for this flick slowly but surly dwindles. With two such high profile actor in these roles it sort of suggests that these characters will be getting a fair bit of screen time which then has me thinking that a good chunk of the picture will be taken up with an unnecessary of even worse reworked origin story, we can only hope this will not be the case.

Here's the article.

The Breeders - Shocker in Gloomtown

SECOND SUCKER PUNCH TRAILER.

Here's a follow on from yesterdays SUCKER PUNCH post. This is the second trailer and it gives a bit more of an idea behind the basic "story" which seems, well basic (though for this type of flick that's mostly a good thing) and the "acting" which seems a little One Tree Hill for my liking but it still looks like it'll be more fun than a bag of drunken clowns, as I've said before I can't wait.

SUCKER PUNCH CHARACTER DRAWINGS

If this movie lives up to the posters and trailer then all is set for a stone cold fox of a movie buzz, can't wait.

TIM BURTON SUPERMAN SUIT DESIGNS

I think it's safe to say that when pictures surfaced of Nicolas Cage in his suit from the failed Burton directed flick SUPERMAN LIVES, the general reaction from fans was "Thank the gods that didn't happen". Well more pics have been released of the movies suit designs and I have to admit that although they are in no way suitable (I thank you) for Superman they do look pretty good. This is the first time I've seen these particular designs but I'm guessing It's due to there TRON-esque look that there now being banded about as curiosities for fans of that early 80's sci-fi picture that in no way needed a sequel.

Here's the article and more images.
